Employment
Most of the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society is undertaken by volunteers. The Society attempts to keep paid staff numbers and administration costs to a minimum so that as much funding as possible is directed to the poor and disadvantaged, for whom it is intended.
However, paid positions occasionally become available in our Vinnies centres and other facilities. The work involved ranges from clerical to retail management, charitable assistance, domestic services and other skilled and semi-skilled employment. Wages are paid in line with relevant industrial awards.
People approaching the Society for help live in various stressful situations and it is our philosophy that assistance must be offered in a way that enables them to live and function with dignity. Employees are expected to have an appreciation of the Society’s ideals and to maintain those ideals within the environment of their employment.
When positions become available, the Society advertises them in the Canberra Times on Saturday mornings. Advertisements carry the St Vincent de Paul Society logo.
